For Public Projects — Built to Spec, Documented to Spec, Delivered on Schedule

CSI Division 32 31 16 — Wood Fencing | Serving General Contractors on Public Procurement Projects

At Secure Public Fence, we specialize in Western Red Cedar fence systems for public sector projects — parks, recreational facilities, municipal campuses, transit corridors, and school grounds. Our installations are designed from day one around public procurement requirements, agency specifications, and the schedule pressure that comes with publicly funded construction. We work exclusively as a fence subcontractor to General Contractors, providing certified materials, full documentation packages, and field crews experienced in coordinating with multi-trade environments. When your bid includes a fence scope, we make sure it doesn't become your problem.

Why Cedar for Public Projects?

Western Red Cedar is the preferred natural wood material in public fencing specifications for good reason. It meets the durability and low-maintenance demands that public agencies require when managing long-term infrastructure with limited maintenance budgets.

Natural Decay Resistance

Cedar contains thujaplicins — natural oils that act as built-in preservatives, making it inherently resistant to rot, fungal decay, and insect damage without chemical treatment. Especially valuable near playgrounds, water features, or environmentally sensitive areas where treated lumber chemicals are restricted.

Dimensional Stability

Cedar's low density and uniform cell structure reduce shrinkage and warping — fewer callbacks, lower long-term maintenance costs for the owner, and a cleaner final inspection for your team.

Environmental Compliance

Cedar is a renewable material. When sourced from certified forests (FSC-certified supply available upon request), it supports LEED documentation and green building requirements increasingly common in public project specifications.

Aesthetic Compliance

Public agencies frequently require fencing that blends with natural surroundings or meets community design standards. Cedar's natural grain and warm tones satisfy those requirements while delivering full structural performance.

CONFIGURATION

TYPICAL PUBLIC APPLICATIONS

Board-on-Board

Maximum privacy — both sides finished. Preferred for public-facing installations, screening, and urban infill projects.

Board-to-Board

Solid privacy panel, single face. Cost-effective for perimeter screening where one finished side is sufficient.

Shadowbox

Semi-privacy with airflow. Common in trail perimeters, park buffers, and neighborhood interfaces.

Horizontal Slat

Modern aesthetic — frequently specified in civic centers, transit corridors, and contemporary municipal facilities.

Picket

Open visibility — used in parks, trail delineation, playgrounds, and areas requiring natural sight lines.

Cap & Trim

Enhanced finish for high-visibility public areas — entry points, community centers, civic plazas.

⚙  Steel Post Core Option — For High-Wind Zones & Extended Warranty Projects

For projects in high-wind zones or requiring extended warranty periods, we offer concealed steel post cores within a cedar sleeve.

This provides enhanced structural performance while maintaining the wood aesthetic required by the specification.

Engineering documentation and wind load calculations available upon request.

Compliance & Documentation

CSI 32 31 16 | ORGANIZED TO YOUR PROJECT'S SPECIFICATION FORMAT — FIRST SUBMITTAL, NO RE-SUBMISSIONS

Public projects require more than installation — they require a paper trail. Our submittal packages are organized to mirror CSI Division 32 31 16 exactly, so your A&E reviewer gets what they expect the first time. This is where most fence subs fall short. We don't.

Where Cedar Wood Fence Gets Specified in Public Projects

Our Cedar installations serve the following public facility types — each with specific performance and documentation requirements that our team is trained to meet.

FACILITY TYPE

TYPICAL CEDAR FENCE SCOPE

Parks & Recreation

Trail delineation, dog park enclosures, picnic area perimeters, natural area buffers, playground boundaries.

K-12 & Higher Education

Campus perimeter screening, athletic field surrounds, courtyard privacy, vehicular access control aesthetic zones.

Municipal Facilities

City hall campus perimeters, public works yards (screening), utility station screening, community centers.

Transit & Infrastructure

Visual barriers adjacent to transit corridors, pedestrian pathway delineation, maintenance access screening.

Affordable Housing / Mixed-Use

Courtyard privacy fencing, amenity screening — Cedar frequently specified in community design standards.

Installation on Active Public Sites

Public project sites present unique field coordination challenges that residential fence contractors are not equipped to handle. Our crews are trained and experienced in:

Phased Installation

We coordinate installation in zones aligned with your construction phasing schedule — minimizing fence-related critical path impacts and keeping your milestone dates intact.

Occupied Facility Protocols

For active school campuses, parks, or municipal facilities, we implement safety perimeters, work-hour restrictions, and OSHA-compliant temporary barrier systems during installation.

Underground Utility Coordination

All post locations are marked and confirmed with 811/Dig Safe prior to excavation. We coordinate utility conflicts with your site superintendent before they become RFIs.

Traffic Control (MOT)

On projects adjacent to public roadways or active parking areas, we supply and manage Maintenance of Traffic setups in coordination with your site safety plan.

Multi-Trade Coordination

We work within your construction management platform and attend OAC meetings when required to maintain schedule alignment with other trades.

Davis-Bacon Compliance

All applicable projects are executed in full prevailing wage compliance. Certified payroll records provided on your required submission schedule.

Warranty Coverage

All warranties are transferable to the project owner upon substantial completion and provided in written form as part of the project closeout package. Extended warranty options available for specified projects.

Frequently Asked Questions — For Project Managers

Q: Does Cedar require pressure treatment for public projects?

A: Not typically. Western Red Cedar's natural oils provide decay resistance equivalent to many treated wood products, without chemical concerns that can complicate use near playgrounds, water features, or LEED-tracked projects. When spec language requires treated lumber, we comply and provide documentation of treatment type, retention levels, and AWPA standards met.

Q: How do you handle Davis-Bacon / prevailing wage requirements?

A: All applicable projects are executed in full Davis-Bacon compliance. We maintain certified payroll records and provide them on your required submission schedule — no chasing us for paperwork.

Q: Can you match existing fence on a renovation or campus expansion?

A: Yes. We carry multiple Cedar grades and stain options and provide samples for A&E approval before ordering material. Where an exact match is critical, we recommend a pre-construction sample review.

Q: What is your typical lead time from NTP to mobilization?

A: For standard Cedar fence scopes, we typically mobilize within 10–15 business days of NTP depending on material lead times at time of award. We communicate material procurement status proactively so there are no schedule surprises.

Q: Do you self-perform or use sub-tier labor?

A: We self-perform all fence installation with our own trained crews. No sub-tier fence labor on your project.
