For public projects

Built to Spec, Documented to Spec, Delivered on Schedule

CSI Division 32 31 16 — Wood Fencing | Serving General Contractors on Public Procurement Projects

At Secure Public Fence, we specialize in Western Red Cedar fence systems for public sector projects — parks, recreational facilities, municipal campuses, transit corridors, and school grounds. Our installations are designed from day one around public procurement requirements, agency specifications, and the schedule pressure that comes with publicly funded construction. We work exclusively as a fence subcontractor to General Contractors, providing certified materials, full documentation packages, and field crews experienced in coordinating with multi-trade environments. When your bid includes a fence scope, we make sure it doesn't become your problem.

For public projects

The Preferred Natural Material in Public Specs

Western Red Cedar meets the durability and low-maintenance demands that public agencies require when managing long-term infrastructure with limited maintenance budgets.

01

Natural Decay Resistance

Cedar contains thujaplicins — natural oils that act as built-in preservatives, making it inherently resistant to rot, fungal decay, and insect damage without chemical treatment.

02

Dimensional Stability

Cedar's low density and uniform cell structure reduce shrinkage and warping — fewer callbacks, lower long-term maintenance costs, and a cleaner final inspection for your team.

For public projects

Designed for Your Scope Review & Estimating Process

Submittal preparation and scope review support built into every specification we deliver.

Division 32 31 16 — Wood Fencing

The governing CSI specification section that organizes all wood fencing requirements for public procurement. Our submittal packages are structured to mirror this division exactly for first-submittal approval.

Western Red Cedar, #1 or Better, Kiln-Dried (KDWF)

Kiln-drying reduces moisture content to 19% or below, ensuring dimensional stability after installation and minimizing post-construction warping or checking on the finished fence.

4×4 or 4×6 Western Red Cedar — Steel core option available

Post size is determined by fence height and wind zone requirements. Steel core option provides concealed structural reinforcement within a cedar sleeve for high-wind zones or extended warranty projects.

2×4 Western Red Cedar — Vertical or Horizontal configurations

Rail orientation is selected based on the fence configuration. Horizontal rails are standard for most privacy styles; vertical blocking rails are used in specific structural or aesthetic applications.

Hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel

Fastener specification is driven by project requirements and proximity to coastal or corrosive environments. Stainless steel is standard for marine exposure or where the specification requires superior corrosion resistance.

Factory pre-stained, field-applied stain, or natural

Factory pre-stain provides the most uniform coverage and longest service life. Color samples are provided for owner and A&E approval prior to material procurement. Natural (unstained) cedar is available where specified.

4', 6', 8' — Custom heights available per engineering

Standard heights cover the majority of public facility applications. Custom heights above 8' require structural engineering and are available with stamped drawings provided as part of the submittal package.

8' O.C. standard — Adjustable per structural engineering

Standard 8' on-center spacing is used for most applications. Reduced spacing may be required by structural engineering for tall fence heights, high-wind zones, or sites with specific loading requirements.

Concrete-set posts, minimum 1/3 post height in ground

Footing depth is determined by local frost line requirements and structural loads. All post locations are confirmed with 811/Dig Safe prior to excavation. Concrete mix and footing dimensions are shown on shop drawings.

Built to ASTM standards or higher

All materials and installation methods meet or exceed applicable ASTM standards. Shop drawings are prepared for A&E review and include post layout, panel configurations, gate details, and footing specifications.

Available Configurations

Six System Types

Each configuration serves specific public facility use cases. Selection is typically driven by owner program requirements, sight-line specifications, and site context.

Board-on-Board

Maximum privacy — both sides finished. Preferred for public-facing installations, screening, and urban infill projects.

Steel Post Core Option — For High-Wind Zones & Extended Warranty Projects

For projects in high-wind zones or requiring extended warranty periods, we offer concealed steel post cores within a cedar sleeve. This provides enhanced structural performance while maintaining the wood aesthetic required by the specification. Engineering documentation and wind load calculations available upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions

For Project Managers

Does Cedar require pressure treatment for public projects?

Not typically. Western Red Cedar's natural oils provide decay resistance equivalent to many treated wood products, without chemical concerns that can complicate use near playgrounds, water features, or LEED-tracked projects. When spec language requires treated lumber, we comply and provide documentation of treatment type, retention levels, and AWPA standards met.

How do you handle Davis-Bacon / prevailing wage requirements?

All applicable projects are executed in full Davis-Bacon compliance. We maintain certified payroll records and provide them on your required submission schedule — no chasing us for paperwork.

Can you match existing fence on a renovation or campus expansion?

Yes. We carry multiple Cedar grades and stain options and provide samples for A&E approval before ordering material. Where an exact match is critical, we recommend a pre-construction sample review.

What is your typical lead time from NTP to mobilization?

For standard Cedar fence scopes, we typically mobilize within 10–15 business days of NTP depending on material lead times at time of award. We communicate material procurement status proactively so there are no schedule surprises.

Do you self-perform or use sub-tier labor?

We self-perform all fence installation with our own trained crews. No sub-tier fence labor on your project.
